Your Thermography Experience

PREPARATION:

After scheduling, go over your forms and ensure to follow the protocols outlined to have the best exam results. Pay close attention to the restrictions 5 days out, 48 hours, and 24 hours before your appointment. False positive or false negative results can happen if the pre-exam instructions are not followed exactly.

DAY OF EXAM:

We are located at 1801 West Broadway, on the first floor. The building is on the corner of Broadway and Oak and has street and parking on the premises. As you enter the building, we are located to your left, the last door on the right before you enter the spa. We have two black chairs sitting in front of the door to our office.

When you arrive at our office door, please knock. That way, in case we are with another patient, we will know you have arrived.

At your appointment time, we will be out to greet you and verify that you have been able to complete your paperwork. It is imperative to follow the pre-exam instructions to make sure you have an accurate imaging exam. Please let the technician know if there are questions or concerns.

Once we step into the thermal imaging room, expect the room to feel cool. To image the body with a thermal imaging camera the skin must be cool so we can see the heat signatures in the tissues of the body.

We will go over your paperwork and take your temperature.

We will then explain the acclimation process and the positions that are acceptable for the acclimation period.

Then the technician will step out of the room for your acclimation period.

The patient will remove all clothing in the area of imaging and will assume the discussed acclimation positions.

There must be no jewelry or hair in the area of imaging and there must be NO cell phones or other hot devices in the area while acclimating.

These acclimation positions allow the body part being imaged to cool properly. It is imperative not to touch the area that is being imaged during acclimation. The thermal images are completely dependent on the proper acclimation techniques. There must be no clothing or anything touching the body part to be imaged during acclimation.

Once the acclimation period is over, the technician will return to the room to do the imaging exam. We use a thermal camera that captures temperature differences on the skin and superficial tissues. Tissues in the body, with inflammation, are warm and that heat makes its' way to the surface, allowing the thermal camera to see those areas of heat.

The technician will do multiple different images in different body rotations in relation to the camera. The images are acquired in black and white and then post processed into different color maps for interpretation.

Once the images are completed the patient is asked to dress and the technologist will discuss the reading and follow up information. The images will then be sent to Dr. Kane at Kane Interpretive services to be read.

RESULTS:

Once your images are read, the results and images will be sent to you.

The patient is responsible for sharing the report with their personal medical provider.

The patient will be notified when they are due to return for their follow-up exam as recommended by Dr. Kane in his report.
